10 Extremely Underrated Stoner Rock & Metal Albums

It’s time for some stoner music straight off the stalk. Covering the vast expanse of weed-inspired rock and metal, our goal is for you to discover at least one new album to enjoy while burning that sweet leaf.

Enjoy these extremely underrated stoner rock and metal albums.

Released in 1997, Tumuli Shroomaroom by UK stoners Acrimony is a true blend of ‘90s stoner metal and early ‘70s psychedelic rock. This album sounds like it’s trying to sell you “grass” from a van behind your local high school. Turns out it’s the best shit you’ve ever smoked.

Somali Yacht Club is the high-vibrational type of stoner music. Heavily instrumental, the band’s gorgeous 2018 album The Sea is a hypnotic trip into a vast emptiness. Here’s your warm sonic blanket for whatever chemical is coursing through you.

Pure American muscle in stoner form. These Maryland boys came up during the early ‘90s alternative tsunami, perfectly blending blues rock with prog and stoner metal. Despite being a total drug trip of a band, Unorthodox were totally against hard drugs, as evidenced in the album’s opening track, “Junkie.”

Sophie Day’s vocals are absolutely everything on Alunah’s sophomore album. From the stoner doom capital of Birmingham, White Hoarhound is pure Sabbathian riffage with the fuzzed out tone of modern stoner doom. Such a gem from the early 2010s.

Portland wizards Troll made a killer album back in 2016, completely drenched in psychedelia and magical realism. This is some true Magic: The Gathering stoner doom, and we thank legendary YouTuber 666MrDoom for bringing this to our attention.

You’ve never heard such a deranged stoner album in your life. With influences ranging from Hawkwind to Neil Young and Neurosis, U.S. ChristmasEat the Low Dogs is a downtrodden cry for help. If you’ve recently jumped aboard the Chat Pile bandwagon, this album is highly recommended.

Blending the first and second waves of doom metal, Blood Farmers love themselves some murderous jams. The band’s 1995 self-titled debut is a crimson-soaked horror show, and it brings a more sharpened edge to the stoner style that bands like Sleep perfected.

If you miss Mastodon’s Remission and Leviathan eras, you may get your fix with Iota’s debut album, Tales. A more THC-laced version of Georgia’s prog-sludge scene, Iota vocalist Joey Toscano gives Troy Sanders vibes with his deep bellowing and distant yells. Worth a few spins for sure.

Shout out Stoned Meadow of Doom for sharing this one. Hailing from Greece, Their Methlab is way more active on the heroin scale than any other psychoactive drug. This 2019 album is really fucking relaxing. Put it on after a long day and feel the ease of your aching muscles.

Some of the most punchy stoner rock you’ll ever hear. Greenmachine were definitely on that sativa, because The Earth Beater isn’t a melt-into-the-couch type of album. With one of the best guitar tones in weed history and vocals straight from the psych ward, this album is degeneracy in sonic form.
