2 Ways To Enable OnePlus Shelf On Right Swipe On Any OnePlus Phone

  • Once the wireless debugging is connected, go to the app and enter the same commands to add the OnePlus shelf as above and hit enter after each of them.
  • The shelf feature allows you to use widgets like the step counter, quick note, weather status, IR remote (if the device supports), and more, all in a single tab.
  • In this article, I’ll be telling you two ways through which you can access the Shelf feature instead of Google Discover by swiping right on the home screen.

If you are a OnePlus user, you must have wondered why the Shelf feature has stopped being accessible by swiping right on the home screen. Over the years, OnePlus has revamped the accessibility of the Shelf feature with yearly OxygenOS updates. Additionally, the Google Discover feature has been placed across all Android phones when we swipe right on the home screen. In this article, I’ll be telling you two ways through which you can access the Shelf feature instead of Google Discover by swiping right on the home screen.

Why You Should Use The Shelf Feature

OxygenOS is often considered one of the best Android phone UIs. There are many distinct and iconic features that enhance the device’s accessibility. One of them is the Shelf feature, which looks classy and has many useful features. As we know, in recent years, many features of the OxygenOS and ColorOS have been overlapping. This means that this feature is also available on OPPO phones now. The shelf feature allows you to use widgets like the step counter, quick note, weather status, IR remote (if the device supports), and more, all in a single tab. Let’s see how we can access it by swiping right on the home screen.

Method 1: Enable OnePlus Shelf Using ADB

For this, you would need a PC or laptop and a USB cable along with your OnePlus device. Connect your phone with the computer through the cable.

1. On your phone, open settings. Scroll down and tap on ‘About Device’.

2. Tap on ‘Version’.

3. Tap on ‘Version No.’ seven times, until you see now you’re a developer

4. Open ‘System & update’ in settings.

5. Go to ‘Developer options’.

6. Make sure to unable OEM unlocking and USB debugging

7. Download Platform Tools on your computer.

8. After the platform tools are downloaded, extract the folder.

9. In the address bar, type ‘cmd’.

10. Now check whether your device is connected by giving the following command: adb devices, hit enter

11. Now add the following commands and hit enter.

adb shell settings put secure assistant_screen_type 1

adb shell settings put secure assistant_screen_type_left_enable 1

12. Once you restart your phone and swipe right, you will see that Google Discover is replaced by OnePlus Shelf.

If you want to bring back Google Discover, use the following two commands and hit enter after each one.

  • adb shell settings put secure assistant_screen_type 2
  • adb shell settings put secure assistant_screen_type_left_enable 1

Once you restart your phone, you’ll see that Google Discover is back when you swipe right.

Method 2: Using LADB Connect

In this method, you can achieve the same result through your phone without the need for a computer.

1. On your phone, follow the same steps as above, along with OEM unlocking and USB debugging, make sure wireless debugging is also enabled in the developer options.

2. Download and install the LADB Connect app from the Play Store.

3. Now open the application and put it in a floating window, make sure it’s allowed to display over other apps.

4. Now open the wireless debugging section and tap on pair device through the pairing code and port number displayed on the screen.

5. Once the wireless debugging is connected, go to the app and enter the same commands to add the OnePlus shelf as above and hit enter after each of them.

6. This time you don’t need to restart your device, go to the homescreen and swiping right will bring you the OnePlus shelf.

Simple Way to Access This Feature Through Swiping Down

If you don’t want much hassle, there is a simple way too, which is already there in the UI.

1. Long-press on any empty space on the home screen, and tap ‘Home screen settings’.

2. Scroll down and tap on ‘Swipe down on Home screen’.

3. Now choose Shelf and go to your home screen

Once on the Home screen, swipe down from the middle of the screen, and you will be able to access the Shelf feature. Avoid swiping down from the top of the screen, as that would take you to the notification or quick settings panel.

Wrapping Up

In my opinion, this is a crucial feature to experience the OxygenOS fully. It not only offers information but a range of utility tools too, unlike Google Discover. The first method is for enthusiasts who like to try new things and experiment with devices and software features that are easily accessible to a general user.
