In 2021, Rocket From The Crypt/Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes veteran John Reis got together with another underground music lifer, Pinback mastermind Rob Crow, to start a new band. They enlisted former Rocket From The Crypt drummer Atom Willard — who has also played in bands like Against Me!, Social Distortion, the Offspring, and Angels & Airwaves — and Mrs. Magician bassist Jordan Clark, and they called themselves PLOSIVS. Their self-titled debut came out in 2022, and their second LP drops later this month.
John Reis announced the new PLOSIVS album Yell At Cloud on Instagram back in September, but they only recently got around to dropping lead single “Metacine.” (It dropped a few days ago. Sorry if we’ve been a little distracted, but I didn’t want to ignore this one.) “Metacine” is a pounding, melodic rocker that would be all over rock radio in a better world. I think of John Reis and Rob Crow as kings of the dive-bar circuit, but it’s not too hard to imagine this track echoing around an arena. Check out “Metacine” and the Yell At Cloud tracklist below.
