Contrary to what my mom has always led me to believe, guests don’t swipe my furniture for dust as soon as they enter my home. What they actually do first is comment on how good it smells (humble brag). Few things make me happier, because I have a borderline unreasonable obsession with home fragrance. I’ve tried them all, scented candles, incense, diffusers … and I have a lot of opinions.
The same is true when it comes to seasonal fragrances. While essential to setting the vibe this time of year, the worst ones can smell cloyingly sweet or synthetic. Enter Mrs. Meyer’s new Premium Scented Oil Air Freshener In Iowa Pine, which makes my apartment smell like an actual Christmas tree farm in the best possible way for only $10.
What Is the Mrs. Meyer’s Plug-In Scented Oil?
The new scented oils from Mrs. Meyer’s are the upgrade that wall diffusers desperately needed. Most plug-ins are overwhelming (and frankly, migraine-inducing) with overly synthetic-smelling fragrances, but these use simple ingredients like essential oils to deliver up to 40 or 60 days of light, garden-fresh aromas. There’s even a spin dial at the top of the diffuser that lets you adjust the scent level, a boon for sensitive noses everywhere.
It’s designed with two settings: an always-on mode or a 16-hour mode that will automatically rest for 8 hours, so not a drop goes to waste. What’s more, a tiny refill light lets you know when it’s time to get a new vial.
Now let’s discuss the holiday scents: Snow Drop (think icy-freshness, with citrus and floral notes), and my personal favorite, Iowa Pine (smells like fresh-cut trees and cedar). The brand says Iowa Pine brings the best parts of a live Christmas tree to your space, and after testing it myself, I totally agree.
Why I Love the Mrs. Meyer’s Plug-In Scented Oil
Mrs. Meyer’s has found its way into every corner of my apartment: hand soap, dish soap, cleaning spray, even pet deodorizers — now the Plug-In Scented Oils are the newest fixture for me. The scents are soft and inoffensive, a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) compared with others on the market. And I love that I can control the intensity.
What’s more, the plug-in has a tiny light at the top that, in addition to letting you know it’s time for a refill, softly glows while it’s running and blinks when you adjust the scent strength. Even on medium intensity, the scent subtly wafted through my small apartment. You’d think my apartment just always smells this good, and would never guess it was coming from a plug-in.
While pine scents are a dime a dozen this time of year, Mrs. Meyer’s Iowa Pine is unlike any other I’ve smelled. It immediately took me back to memories of shopping for a Christmas tree, and the uber fresh, woodsy scent that would linger in my parent’s house every year. The jury’s still out on whether I’ll be buying a real tree this holiday season, but I honestly might be able to skip it — the scented oil smells, dare I say, are better than the real thing.
Snow Drop, another fan-favorite, smells clean, lightly floral, and doesn’t clash with any of the other fragrances I’ve got going throughout my place. It’s definitely something I’ll be keeping on my year-round rotation. Both scents are limited edition, however, so I’d stock up on both before they go away.
The Plug-In Scented Oil doesn’t disappoint in the aesthetics department, either. The warming diffuser itself has a sleek body and a fluted exterior that look impressively stylish for a plug-in. The scent vials themselves are also glass, which I love, and makes the whole thing look more premium than its affordable $10 price tag would suggest.
Leave it to Mrs. Meyer’s to get me to fall in love with plug-in diffusers again!
