Trump didn’t post on Truth Social that ’14 is old enough to make your own decisions’

Claim:

A screenshot shows a Truth Social post in which U.S. President Donald Trump encouraged followers to “move on” from “all that stuff with Epstein,” writing, “14 IS OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS!!” apparently in reference to the age of some of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking and abuse victims.

In November 2025, after the U.S. House Oversight Committee released a trove of documents about the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, an image (archived) circulated online that claimed to show a post on Truth Social by U.S. President Donald Trump in which he told his followers to “move on” from “all that stuff with Epstein.” 

According to a purported screenshot shared by one Facebook user, Trump allegedly wrote:

ALL THAT STUFF WITH EPSTEIN WAS A LONG TIME AGO!! EVERYONE JUST NEEDS TO MOVE ON!! THERE ARE REAL PROBLEMS FACING OUR NATION!! PROBLEMS CAUSED BY JOE BIDEN!! THERES A COMMIE RUNNING NYC!! NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT EPSTEIN!! EPSTEIN!! EPSTEIN!! NOBODY CARES!! IT’S ALL A DEMOCRATIC HOAX!! BESIDES 14 IS OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!!

The reference to 14-year-olds appeared to be a reference to the Justice Department ‘s findings when it charged Epstein in 2019 that some of his alleged victims “were as young as 14 at the time he abused them.”

Epstein, already a convicted sex offender at the time the DOJ filed sex trafficking charges against him, died by suicide in a New York City prison cell while awaiting trial in 2019.

The alleged Truth Social post circulated mainly in groups on Facebook (archived, archived, archived), but also on X (archived) and Instagram (archived). Snopes readers wrote in asking whether Trump really wrote the post.

A search on both Trump’s Truth Social profile and Trump’s Truth, a website that archives posts from the president’s account, found no trace of the alleged post on Nov. 14, 2025, the date listed on some purported screenshots circulating online. The alleged post’s appearance, including fonts, date formatting and a missing emblem next to Trump’s username indicated it was not an authentic screenshot from Truth Social. Therefore, we rate the post fake.

A White House official said via email the post was “obviously fake.”

A review of Trump’s Truth Social account showed the president published three posts mentioning Epstein on Nov. 14, 2025. None of these posts contained the exact wording from the fake post. Trump’s Truth showed a fourth post that Trump appeared to have later removed, potentially due to a misspelling of former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers’ name. Trump republished that post, which alleged Summers knew “all about” Epstein, with the correctly spelled name around 10 minutes after the first posting.

A closer inspection of the fake post also revealed it was a poor imitation of Trump’s authentic Truth Social posts. The person who created the post likely used websites that can create fake social media posts.

For example, the screenshots missed out a black, green and white emblem next to Trump’s username that indicated the president is a Truth+ subscriber. Additionally, the username, profile picture and engagement statistics were blurred in the screenshots but appeared clear on genuine posts on the actual Truth Social site. 

The Truth Social website also used the date format “Nov. 14, 2025” in a sans serif font, while the fake post used “11/14/2025” in a serif font.

The fake post potentially also played on old claims that Trump sought to lower the age of consent to 14 years old. A Snopes investigation in August 2025 found no evidence that those claims were true.
