At The Gates vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg sadly died on September 16 after a battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Now Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, and The Halo Effect have plotted a show in memory of the legendary frontman for December 6 at Monument 031 in Gothenburg, Sweden. All ticket sales will go directly to Cancerfonden and the Gardens Of Grief fund set up there by Elis Markskog of Malmö Massacre.
It’s worth noting that the press release states: “Please note: this is a celebration of Lindberg‘s legacy — not full-set concerts. The aim is to gather friends, fans and family alike and celebrate the music and honor their friend.”
Lindberg‘s death was originally confirmed by his family to the news to Swedish public broadcaster SVT Nyheter. At The Gates then issued a heartbreaking statement on the death of Tomas Lindberg, saying he died “following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment.”
“Tomas passed away this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment,” wrote At The Gates. “Despite intensive medical efforts, his life could not be saved. Tomas – You were an inspiration to us all. A true friend, both compassionate & sympathetic. You will always be remembered for your generosity and your creative spirit. You will be eternally missed. Forever in our hearts.”
Lindberg was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive cancer in December 2023, which led to major surgery to remove part of the roof of his mouth, followed by two months of radiation. Initially on a slow path to recovery, traces of the cancer returned in early 2025. By May of that year, complications placed him in long-term care, and his bandmates later revealed he was receiving “around-the-clock” treatment.
