Blood Orange Cover Coldplay’s “Don’t Panic”: Watch

You ever think about how we live in a beautiful world yes we do yes we do? Bones sinkin’ like stones, all that we fought for? Homes, places we’ve grown, all of us are done for? No? You don’t? Well, I know I’m not alone. Coldplay thought about that stuff, too. It’s what they sang about on “Don’t Panic,” one of the less-remembered singles from their honestly very good 2000 debut album Parachutes. And Blood Orange must think about it, too, since Dev Hynes and his band just covered “Don’t Panic” in a visit to the BBC Live Lounge.

Over the summer, Blood Orange returned with the guest-heavy and absolutely gorgeous album Essex Honey. Dev Hynes and friends opened US shows for both Turnstile and Lorde. More recently, they headed back to London and did a Live Lounge session. In keeping with Live Lounge traditions, they tried out a cover. Their version of “Don’t Panic” was lightly funky and very pretty.

Interestingly enough, Coldplay have lately gone viral with a different Parachutes track. Right now, “Sparks” is one of the many, many older songs in the Spotify top 100. Why? Who knows! These things just happen! Blood Orange is no stranger to having older songs randomly go viral, but he didn’t cover the Parachutes track that’s blowing up right now, which is noble. Watch the Blood Orange “Don’t Panic” cover and the original Coldplay video below.

Blood Orange also did live-in-studio versions of the Essex Honey singles “Somewhere In Between” and “Countryside,” and you can watch those below.

Essex Honey is out now on RCA.
