Ex-Death guitarist James Murphy has briefly resurfaced to play one of his former band’s songs live! Murphy joined the Death tribute act Death To All on November 18 at The Orpheum in Tampa, FL to rip through “Altering The Future” and of course he nailed it. Murphy is one of the most underrated death metal musicians of all time.
Murphy played in Death between 1989 and 1990, and played on the Spiritual Healing record. Though that’s hardly all the man contributed to death metal – Murphy played on Cancer‘s 1991 record Death Shall Rise; Obituary‘s Cause Of Death; and was in Testament largely between 1993 and 2000 for the Low, The Gathering, and Demonic records; and headed up the legendary Disincarnate with a potential second record constantly looming.
