The soundtrack for the new Amazon-made Christmas movie Oh. What. Fun. is speckled with indie stars like Fleet Foxes, St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy, Weyes Blood, Sharon Van Etten, Madi Diaz, Uwade, Andy Shauf, and Lorely Rodriguez (Empress Of). A lot of the artists have recorded popular and traditional Christmas songs for the project, but Fleet Foxes opted for a different approach. Robin Pecknold’s band has instead covered “Angel In The Snow,” a cold-weather-coded track from Elliott Smith’s posthumous album New Moon. It’s kind of meta given that Fleet Foxes’ own “White Winter Hymnal” has also been annexed into the yuletide canon by playlist curators and Pentatonix.
Pecknold shared this statement:
“Angel In The Snow” has always been one of my favorite songs by Elliott, one I’d always listen to around the holidays, so it was a huge joy to make this for such a sweet film. It wasn’t even my idea! Took me back to handing out “RIP Elliott” flyers at my high school graduation in 2004. Elliott Smith forever.

Oh. What. Fun. premieres on Amazon Prime on 12/3, which is the same day the soundtrack album drops. Pre-order it here.
