We’re in the midst of a grabbing crisis. Over the past few weeks — in instances ranging from creepy to truly frightening — we’ve seen clips online of people getting way too handsy with artists including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Halsey, and Ariana Grande while those artists were simply trying to do their jobs. Since then, Lenny Kravitz has also been subjected to some aggressive grabbing; in an Instagram video following his Brisbane show Friday night, he said someone in the audience there ripped out four of his dreadlocks.
It’s tradition for Kravitz to walk through the audience when he does “Let Love Rule” as his encore. “So when I went up to ‘Let Love Rule,’ a very excited young lady pulled four dreadlocks out of the back of my head,” Kravitz said in the video. “You know how hard you gotta pull to rip those out of my head? Damn, baby. Anyway, I’m not gonna stop coming out there for ‘Let Love Rule’ because that’s what we do. That’s our moment together. Brisbane, you’re wild. I love you.”
Now, I’m not going to try to tell anybody how they should respond to being physically harmed, but I do think Kravitz is underselling the severity of the situation. That looked really painful! You can be angry, Lenny! See for yourself below.
