Roger Waters and Ozzy Osbourne are alike in that they’ve never really been known for censoring themselves, but their similarities evidently stop there. After the former Pink Floyd member made some slightly disparaging remarks about the late Black Sabbath frontman a couple of months ago, the surviving Osbournes are celebrating what would be his 77th birthday by selling a shirt that appears to show Oz, who once notoriously urinated on the Alamo’s Cenotaph memorial, pissing on another recognizable wall.
For context, back in September, Waters did an interview with The Independent Ink, and discussed why he thinks America won’t ever fully embrace a truly progressive political movement. Waters seems to credit that to influential American celebrities like Taylor Swift and the Kardashians, which led him to pivot to Osbourne, who wasn’t American but reaped the benefits of reality TV celebrity. Waters said:
Ozzy Osbourne, who just died, bless him — in his whatever that state that he was in his whole life, we’ll never know. Although he was all over the TV, for hundreds of years with his idiocy and nonsense. The music, I have no idea, I couldn’t give a fuck. I don’t care about Black Sabbath. I never did. I have no interest in — ahhhh — biting the heads off chickens or whatever they do. I couldn’t care less.
It’s certainly not the most inflammatory thing Waters has ever said, but the timing wasn’t the best, coming just a couple of months after Osbourne’s death in July. In the aftermath of those statements, Osbourne’s son responded in an Instagram post: “My father always thought you were a cunt — thanks for proving him right.” Now, Ozzy’s webstore is selling a limited run of shirts called “Another Prick In The Wall Tee” for 48 hours only, and it’s pretty clear which Wall they’re referring to.
