NIKKI SIXX On VINCE NEIL Playing With MÖTLEY CRÜE Again After His Stroke: “I’m Proud Of Him”

Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil unfortunately suffered four strokes over the past year. According to Neil in a recent interview, he had two small ones he wasn’t aware of, a mini stroke where he lost feeling in his hand, and then “a big one” in his sleep on December 26, 2024.

Mötley Crüe has since announced a handful of tour dates for 2026, so clearly things are going well. In a new interview with Trunk, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx said he’s proud of Neil for making the effort and praised his performance post-stroke. And I know the Internet (including us) has had a history of dunking on Neil, but hey – good on the dude for getting back out there.

“I feel great about that. I’m proud of him. You know, I’m proud of the fact that he had the courage to get up there,” said Sixx. “You know, when the whole thing went down and he had the stroke and we had to cancel the first residency, there was doubt. Like we didn’t know, like, is he going to recover from this? Is he going to, and I know he had fear but he put the time in and there’s a lot of stuff that you can do.

“And your health is everything. You know, I don’t care how big your band is, I don’t care how big of a star you are. I don’t care how wealthy you tell people you are, you don’t have your health like you really got nothing. So he was dealing with… he worked all these years and 40 years together and been touring the world and now it’s like something that like, could literally make it so he could never get on stage again.

“So the fact that he did get on stage… and I’m appreciative that he went out and talked about that because there’s a lot of people that when stuff goes wrong in their life and – I could just speak about myself with addiction, people either write them off or they can’t survive it. They can’t survive it.

“And we were there and we were there the whole time along, talking to him and him focusing on, doctors and health and stuff. And we spent a lot of time in rehearsal given that opportunity to really get that muscle in shape, the vocal muscle, the vocal cords. And I was so happy when people were like, ‘It just sounded so good.’ And it just felt, it felt good.”

Mötley Crüe is coming back in 2026 with The Return of The Carnival Of Sins tour, a major 2026 North American tour celebrating two milestones: the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking 2005-2006 Carnival of Sins tour and the 45th anniversary of the band.

The tour will feature very special guests Tesla and Extreme, and $1 from every ticket will be donated to ASAP! (After School Arts Program), a cause close to the hearts of the band members. Get your tickets here.
