The first few lines of New York indie-pop duo TOLEDO’s new song “Nothing Yet” are like the final scene of an indie film: “Driving in your car with a busted lip/ Two cracked knees and my left hand bit/ I cant tell if this is it.” We never get the record-scratch “I bet you’re wondering how I got here” moment, but the whole song works on that sense of confused desperation.
TOLEDO released their single “When He Comes Around” at the tail-end of last year, and they followed it up with two more, “Amends” and “Tall Kids.” “Nothing Yet,” their latest, is a soft and pillowy fantasia that feels holiday-appropriate even though the lyrics don’t necessarily depict a Christmas scenario. Or maybe they do! I don’t know what your life is like. Listen below.
