Tame Impala, U2’s The Edge Talk Beatles vs. Beach Boys

Kevin Parker has been out there spreading the word about his first Tame Impala album in half a decade, the dance-oriented Deadbeat. His promotional journey — which included his first headlining US arena tour — carried him to the Edge’s SiriusXM radio show, where the U2 guitarist posed some tough either/or questions pitting some world-famous bands against each other.

Melodically, does he prefer Supertramp or the Bee Gees? Supertramp prevails. Stevie Wonder or Prince? Though he imagines his friends back home screaming at the screen, Parker sides with Stevie. For some reason, the Edge pits Broken Bells against LCD Soundsystem, as though anyone out there is checking for a Shins side project over James Murphy’s iconic band. (Naturally, Parker prefers LCD.)

But the big one comes second in the sequence, when Parker, a guy whose voice has sparked endless comparisons to John Lennon, is asked to select between the Beatles and Beach Boys. You might be surprised to learn he is Team Wilson on this one.

You can watch Parker think through these questions in the clip below.
