Black Country, New Road Cover Big Star: Listen

It’s that time of year when bands clear out their archives, dispensing demos and covers galore while the music industry waits for the calendar to turn over to January. The latest little treat comes from Black Country, New Road, who have followed up this year’s Forever Howlong with a cover of an absolute classic.

BCNR have released a live recording of “The Ballad Of El Goodo,” a power-pop/folk-rock stunner from Big Star’s 1972 debut album #1 Record from their Oct. 19 show at Sentrum Scene in Oslo. According to setlist.fm they covered “El Goodo” 35 times this year, which might sound like a lot, but I get it. I listened to that song so many times in college. It rules.

You can get a free WAV file of “The Ballad Of El Goodo” by offering BCNR your email address for promotional purposes, and you know what? I get that too. Here’s the message they shared on their socials:

As the year comes to an end we would like to say THANK YOU to every body who has listened to our album or come to one of our shows around the world.
It has been so brilliant for all of us.

To say thank you we are sending a special live recording of @bigstarband – The Ballad Of El Goodo from Sentrum Scene in Oslo, out to those of you subscribed to our mailing list.
