In the coming weeks, four Avengers: Doomsday trailers are supposed to be playing in theaters ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Each of these teasers focuses on one of a handful of characters in its very large cast, with this week’s focusing on Steve Rogers. This strategy feels like a pretty desperate way to get Marvel diehards to see the three-hour long movie multiple times, but it’s working, as some fans attended early, midnight showings of James Cameron’s latest sequel not to return to the world of Pandora but simply to catch the Avengers teaser. However, some fans are reporting back that no such teaser played ahead of their screenings.
“We’ve been super baited, chat,” MistakeNecessary1950 wrote on Reddit.
Some folks who have already seen Fire and Ash said they did see one of the teasers, but that doesn’t seem to have been the case for everyone. In the same Reddit thread, one viewer in Australia said they saw the leaked Steve Rogers trailer at their screening, though one fan from Brazil on X said they saw nothing at their Cinemark showing. Others had a different kind of bad luck, like one viewer who said they didn’t see any previews before Avatar because their theater was having technical difficulties. Let’s get some Fs in the comments for them.

Saw Avatar this morning, but did NOT get to see the Doomsday teaser as everything was all magenta filtered and it took them so long to fix that they just skipped the trailers entirely 💀 pic.twitter.com/cwdCFmLSYT

Though these trailers are meant to be theater-exclusive, fans have already started posting some of them on social media, but Marvel has hit them with copyright strikes, IGN reports. Inevitably, Marvel will eventually post these clips on YouTube for the ad revenue, but for now, it sounds like unless this was an issue related exclusively to these early screenings, whether or not your local theater will actually show you an Avengers teaser if you buy a ticket to Avatar could be a gamble. So use caution when buying a seat for Fire and Ash. Avengers: Doomsday is coming to theaters exactly one year from today on December 18, 2026.
