Max B, the underground Harlem rap star who broke out with his debut mixtape Million Dollar Baby in 2006, was released from prison a few weeks ago after serving 16 years behind bars for a conviction that was eventually vacated. Last year, Max called into The Joe Budden Podcast to break the good news that he’d been given a release date, and that he couldn’t wait to get back into the studio when that day came. (He’d released some music while incarcerated, but prison doesn’t exactly compare to a proper studio.) Now, he’s fulfilled his promise: Max B’s new mixtape Public Domain 7: The Purge is out now.
The seventh installment in Max’s Public Domain series is 24 songs total, and boasts features from A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, French Montana, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Chinx, Lola Brooke, and Red Cafe. He’s also already shared a “Patient Zero Deluxe” edition that includes five additional tracks, one of which is a freestyle over SZA’s “Snooze.” So far, it’s sounding good to have Max B back.
