California hardcore veterans Terror have taken a direct — and characteristically no-nonsense — approach to dealing with a recent unauthorized bootleg design that made use of the band’s trademarks.
Rather than pursuing the issue quietly, the band opted to fight the bootleg with a bootleg of their own, releasing an official version of the shirt themselves. The design in question reportedly originated from Broken Uniform Syndicate and, in a layer of irony, features an image of legendary New York rapper Nas — meaning the image has effectively been bootlegged twice in the process.
Now if Nas issues his own version of Terror‘s version of the bootleg, we’ll be in business dammit.
Addressing the situation head-on, Terror shared the following statement: “Combat the bootleggers by bootlegging the bootleg! It can suck to be a hardworking band & have this happen, but that’s life and we try to make the best of it. Pick up an official shirt from us of a design we did ages ago for a very limited time.
“If you happened to grab one from @brokenuniformsyndicate we encourage you to get a refund. Merry Christmas and thanks for the love! Hoodie version also available.”
The official Terror version of the design is now available via sticktight.la in both t-shirt and hoodie formats, and is being sold for a limited time only. As of press time, Broken Uniform Syndicate has made their Instagram account private, though their online store remains active and continues to offer merchandise featuring designs tied to bands like Slayer and Godflesh, as well as various hip-hop artists.
