Did Millie Bobby Brown donate $1M to LGBTQ+ community, saying ‘I hope they find a cure’?

A rumor circulated online in October 2025 that actor Millie Bobby Brown donated $1 million to the LGBTQ+ community, saying, “I hope they find a cure.” For example, X account @DropPopNet posted the claim (archived) on Oct. 27.

Variations of the rumor spread in other posts (archived, archived), and dozens of Snopes readers searched the site for answers.

Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. However, there was no evidence of the actor either donating that sum of money or making the alleged comment.

A Google search primarily revealed articles related to fact-checking the claim; if Brown had made the comment and donation publicly, reputable outlets likely would have reported on it.

Rather, the rumor about Brown originated with Drop Pop — a social media account that describes its output as being humorous or satirical in nature and has a history of making up stories for shares and comments. Its bio states: “DISCLAIMER: all content is satirical and not factual.”

The fictional story spread as the first part of the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” — where Brown made her acting debut — was nearing release in November 2025.

Snopes has addressed similar satirical claims stemming from Drop Pop in the past, including the assertion that singers Lana Del Rey and Lizzo engaged in a TikTok feud

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
