Some of the most popular holiday decor items sweeping social media are decorations that look like they’ve been passed down for generations — even if they just arrived in stores. It’s why retro ’80s and ’90s staples like aluminum-style trees are still popular today. Another retro touch making a return? Ceramic holiday decor — including Aldi’s newest find, which takes inspiration from ceramic light-up trees so you can bring a bit of kitsch into your kitchen.

“All I wAnT fOr ChRisTmAs is youuuuu!” Ashley from Oh Hey Aldi wrote in an Instagram caption. “Aldi Christmas finds in the cutest colors this week … ”

Some of the finds Ashley included are two cookie jars from Aldi’s Merry Moments collection. These adorable products nail the retro ceramic look — and one of them is even painted pink to ramp the kitsch factor up a notch.

What Makes Aldi’s Cookie Jars Feel So Nostalgic?

These Aldi cookie jars are painted to look exactly like the retro ceramic trees from the 1960s and ’70s. These trees once came in a variety of different styles and colors, including classic green, white, and pink. Most of the trees were lit with colorful bulbs; some even featured white detailing to make the boughs seem like they were covered in fresh snow.

Although they don’t light up like the classic ceramic trees, Aldi’s cookie jars feature bulbs painted onto the surface to achieve the same look as the originals. These appear to be an in-store only exclusive, but you can find a similar cookie jar at Walmart if your local Aldi is already sold out.

This version also comes with painted bulbs and, like the Aldi jar, features a yellow star on top that serves as the handle for the lid. But the Walmart star tree topper actually lights up when you flick the power switch!

“Perfect! So retro,” one Walmart shopper wrote. “Love that the lid lights up, and it holds so many more cookies than you’d think. This was a gift. So happy with it.”

Pack more nostalgia into your holiday decor with this adorable cookie jar from Aldi — it’s a countertop piece that truly feels passed down from generations prior.
