An outreach campaign led by Holiday Kirk of The Nu Metal Agenda has successfully made contact with American Head Charge vocalist Cameron Heacock, following growing concern for the musician after his recent public appearance detailing homelessness and addiction.
Last month, Heacock appeared on the Soft White Underbelly podcast, where he spoke candidly about his long-running battles with substance abuse and mental illness. During the interview, Heacock appeared visibly emaciated and revealed that he has been living on the streets of Los Angeles, struggling with addiction — most recently fentanyl, following years of heroin use.
Sadly, addiction and mental health issues have been a recurring presence throughout American Head Charge‘s history. Heacock‘s struggles were evident well before the band ultimately disbanded in 2017, and he has faced multiple drug-related arrests over the years, including a widely reported 2018 arrest involving a van full of stolen instruments.
In the Soft White Underbelly interview, Heacock described how his addiction spiraled and detailed the circumstances that led him to homelessness. Despite his situation, he expressed a desire to get sober, regain stability, and return to music.
Motivated by the interview, Holiday Kirk launched The Something Beautiful Project, named after lyrics from the 2001 American Head Charge song “Just So You Know.” With Kirk based in Los Angeles, the initiative focused on locating Heacock and offering direct, meaningful assistance, with the ultimate goal of helping him get off the streets and into treatment. On December 22, Kirk confirmed that Heacock has been located and that efforts are now underway to determine next steps.
In an update, Kirk explained the immediate focus of the project: “While we work together to put together an organized treatment plan I am offering you the chance to contribute a small dollar donation while I buy Cam anything he needs for survival purposes.
“You can help us out by donating at this link, everything raised will be spent exclusively on Cam. I don’t have any way of guaranteeing you that, but dammit you have to trust me. This is not something I would ever lie about — every penny that comes to me through that link will go to Cam.”
