Former teen sitcom star Ariana Grande recently sat down with one of her comedy heroes Adam Sandler for an episode of Variety/CNN’s Actors On Actors interview series. It’s pretty sweet! It seems like they genuinely enjoy each other’s company and hold each other in high regard. They talked a lot about their respective new projects (Jay Kelly and Wicked: For Good), but there was one brief moment in which Grande looked a bit perturbed. That moment was when Sandler brought up Grande having to film a sequence of “six or seven” shots for Wicked: For Good.
I’m sorry! I have to try to explain the 6-7 thing now! For the less-online readers out there, the “6-7” meme started gaining traction after Philadelphia rapper Skrilla said the two numbers in his viral 2024 single “Doot Doot (6 7).” The lyric could be referencing a few things — 67th Street in Philly, the police code 10-67 — but as Skrilla tells it, “6-7 just represents [his] brain.” Luckily for him, kids don’t seem to care about any deeper meaning here. “6-7” is the setup and the punchline all in itself, and the youths are taking any opportunity they can to point it out in the wild.
In that Actors On Actors interview, Sandler gave no indication that he knows the “6-7” meme, but when he said “six or seven” to Grande, she furrowed her eyebrows in apparent concern before it became clear that Sandler wasn’t referencing any meme. That moment of Grande’s reaction started going viral, the second time she’s allegedly reacted to a mention of “six or seven” on the Wicked press tour. But Grande, who’s previously proven herself to be tapped in to viral memes du jour, claims she has no idea what “6-7” is.
“i don’t know what this means !” Grande commented on an Instagram reel of the viral clip. “i was reacting to [Sandler] saying the amount of emotional scenes back to back ! i’m scared what is 67.” She quickly followed that up with another comment: “actually i don’t want to know please i love you all enjoy.” See the 6-7 clip in question below.
Maybe Grande’s publicists have instructed her to only publicly engage with memes that have to do with Wicked.
