Before Thursday night, Bad Bunny had never won a Latin Grammy in any of that show’s big general-interest categories. In the Album Of The Year category, he’d been nominated four times, and he’d lost all of them. Last night, however, the 2025 Latin Grammys went down in Las Vegas, and Bad Bunny finally took home the Album Of The Year trophy for Debà Tirar Más Fotos, the hugely acclaimed LP that he released in January.
On last night’s show, Bad Bunny also won four more awards in the Urban and Reggaeton categories. Going into the show, he had more nominations than any other artist. He was up for Song and Record Of The Year, but he lost both of them. Karol G won Song Of The Year for “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” while longtime Latin Grammys favorite Alejandro Sanz took Record Of The Year for “Palmeras En El JardÃn.” NPR reports that Sanz, in his acceptance speech, joked in Spanish about beating Bad Bunny: “Benito, I stole it from you. Forgive me.” Accepting Album Of The Year, Bad Bunny told the crowd, “Hay muchas maneras de hacer patria y defender nuestra tierra — nosotros escogemos la música.” In English: “There are many ways to show patriotism and defend our land — we choose music.”
Last night’s show came during an obviously auspicious cultural moment for Bad Bunny. He’s the featured performer at next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, which incurred the wrath of various Trump toadies, who promised to send ICE agents to the game. (Trump himself doesn’t seem to care that much. One suspects that he’s got other things to worry about.) Bad Bunny is also up for a ton of Anglo Grammys, including Album Of The Year. Alongside Kendrick Lamar and maybe Lady Gaga, you’d have to consider him a favorite to be the big winner on that show, too. Also, Bad Bunny opened last night’s show, performing “Tikiri” and “Weltita” with guest Chuwi.
Kacey Musgraves also performed on last night’s Latin Grammys. She got together with Mexican star Carin León, and they sang their duet “Lost In Translation.”
