CHUCK SCHULDINER’s Cover Of MADONNA’s “Frozen” Surfaces

Death and Control Denied mastermind Chuck Schuldiner was sadly diagnosed with brain cancer (specifically pontine glioma) in May 1999, and died from the illness on December 13, 2001. Despite his final work being the Control Denied record The Fragile Art of Existence in 1999, Schuldiner was still working on new music up until his death – and apparently that included an instrumental cover of Madonna‘s 1998 track “Frozen”.

Schuldiner‘s nephew Chris Steele just posted the instrumental to Death‘s socials and wow – if Chuck would’ve ever fleshed this cover out, it would’ve been amazing. It’s also incredible that despite how bare bones it is, it’s still instantly identifiable as Schuldiner. That man had one hell of a voice, both vocally and on his instrument.

“Found this today going through some things,” wrote Steele. “Chuck recorded this in the early stages of his battle with cancer, I remember it well. Chuck sitting in his bedroom with his stealth and a drum machine. I’m not sure how many people outside of the family and a few friends have heard this but it’s all yours. Chuck’s version of Madonna’s 1998 single ‘Frozen’.”
