It doesn’t matter how many trips I take… 41 countries and counting… I still end up standing in front of my closet the night before a flight wondering, “What do I wear to the airport that’s comfy—but still cute?”
…Sound familiar?
Truthfully, it’s one of those decisions that seems small, but always feels unnecessarily stressful.
I want something that’s as cozy as my PJs—but polished enough for first-class (even if I’m in economy).
That’s exactly why I’m sharing my go-to cozy-chic travel outfit formulas—the ones that take the guesswork out of what to wear and help you feel confident, comfortable, and amazing the moment you step out the door.
Let’s get into it!
Maximize your suitcase, stay organized, and travel like a pro with my go-to packing strategies.
the travel outfit formula I swear by
Monochromatic Matching Set + Sleek Sneakers
There’s a reason I lean into monochromatic matching sets for travel: they’re effortless, elongating, and instantly polished. You don’t have to overthink layers, textures, or coordinating pieces — it’s basically a shortcut to looking put-together while staying ultra-comfy. Pair the look with your favorite sleek sneakers — my go-to is the Veronica Beard Valentina sneakers, which comes in so many shades to compliment any outfit. Now let’s get right into all of the travel outfits I’m loving right now for both style and comfort.
look #1 – elevated ivory
Aritzia Off-Shoulder Sweater + Lululemon Soft Stream Pants
This is one of my all-time favorite sneaky-chic outfits! (It would be amazing for teachers too – as long as you are not an art or elementary school teacher.)
This all-white look is all about soft sophistication.
The Aritzia off-shoulder sweater adds just a touch of elegance, while feeling extremely cozy, and the Lululemon Softstreme pants bring pajama-level comfort but look like tailored trousers. They come in both 29″ (perfect for petites) and 31″ inseams. I have both lengths and am wearing the 29″ above (I’m 5’4″ for reference). I paired this outfit with a pair of super affordable mesh Dolce Vita sneakers to keep the tonal ivory palette chic and cohesive. Add a minimal gold necklace or cuff bracelet and a crossbody bag, and you’re airport-ready without ever sacrificing your comfort.
look #2 – everyday sleek
Spanx AirEssentials Matching Set
If you’re traveling and want a fast and easy, done-for-you chic look that feels like a second skin, the Spanx AirEssentials set is the way to go. If you’re a regular here, you know I’ve been talking about how amazing this set is for years now, and I still wear mine all.the.time. In fact, as I gear up for foot surgery (bunionectomy on both feet) I will be basically living in these sets!
The matching half zip top and wide-leg pants (which come in regular, petite, and tall lengths) are super soft and light as air — guaranteed comfort on longer flights!
I always pair my set with slip-on (and off) sleek, black sneakers to maintain that elongating effect. Typically I layer a trench or a wrap coat like this one (cashmere) from Quince. The outer layer choice depends on weather and needs for the trip. If you want a slimmer leg for travel days, you can always go with their cropped barrel leg pant here in the same amazing fabric.

look #3 – luxuriously cozy
Lilysilk 100% Cashmere Matching Set
For those chilly winter travel days, the Lilysilk 100% cashmere hoodie and pants set is the investment set that will be like a warm hug. The high-quality Mongolian cashmere will keep you extra warm on cold planes, and the soft, luxe cashmere makes it feel like you’re wrapped in a cloud. Bonus, you can easily pair the sweater with dark wash denim and booties! And, the hood is removable!
Wear your cashmere set with neutral-toned sneakers or these snuggly winter boots (pictured above) to maintain the monochrome effect, and toss a lightweight scarf in your carry-on to use as a blankie or pillow mid-flight. This set is perfect for those who really appreciate luxury… and get cold easily—me on every single flight. 🙋♀️
Lilysilk Silkerry Zip-Up Jacket + Matching Sweatpants in Espresso Brown
If you love the Spanx AirEssentials sets, you’ll really enjoy the Lilysilk SILKERRY zip-up jacket and matching sweatpants in espresso brown. This fabric is weightier and not as light as the Spanx set so it would be a perfect option if you either run cold or you simply want more structure.
The fabric is unique – a mix of French Terry and silk so it’s cool on the skin. Plus, the deep espresso shade is a slimming and versatile neutral and a great alternative to black.
I paired this set with my favorite chic sneaks by Veronica Beard. The sneakers are shearling lined so they are super soft and cozy. I recommend sizing up 1/2 size.
This set runs large and the pants are long – ideal for those of you who are taller.
To complete the monochrome effect, I am carrying the maple Beis carry-on roller bag and a chocolate brown soft leather bucket tote. (Cause, of course!) I love this suitcase and have it in a variety of colorways now. You can read my full honest review of it here.

✨bonus look✨
rag & bone sweatpant jeans
I would be doing you a major disservice if I didn’t mention my beloved sweatpant jeans by rag & bone. These pants are sweatpants disguised as jeans – SO good! I paired these Busbee best sellers with a soft, stretchy, streamlined white tee and a tailored black blazer. I love to wear blazers on travel day to avoid packing them in my suitcase. Swap heels for my favorite black sneakers and you’re ready to roll.
