In December 2025, posts on social media alleged that Michael Jordan had announced he would break with the Democratic Party. According to the posts, the basketball legend reportedly said he “just can’t do it anymore” and that “like him or not, [U.S. President Donald Trump] has to be able to do his job.”

Snopes readers searched the site looking for information about the claim.
The assertion was false.
If the claim were true, reputable entertainment and sports media outlets would have reported on it, especially given that Jordan is notorious for not speaking about politics. Searching Google, Bing, Yahoo and Duck Duck Go for the claim found that no such news reports existed, only social media posts.
Instead, Snopes was able to trace the claim back to a now-deleted post from a Facebook user named Richie Furay. That user shared a follow-up post referencing the deleted claim about Jordan while other posts spread the rumor.
Furay is best known as a founding member of the bands Buffalo Springfield, Poco and the Southern-Hillman-Furay Band. However, it was unclear whether the Facebook account that spread the claim about Jordan was actually Furay or just someone attempting to impersonate him. Snopes reached out to Furay to ask for comment on the story but had not heard back at time of publication.
This is not the first time Snopes has checked a supposed statement made by Jordan in support of Trump. Posts on social media falsely claimed Jordan had endorsed Trump just days before the 2024 election.
