Taylor Swift has been vocal in her opposition to the Donald Trump administration, but it appears he still has some Swifties on his social media team.
The White House’s official TikTok account recently posted a video set to the pop superstar’s Billboard Hot 100-topping single “The Fate of Ophelia,” despite the president’s past issues with Swift. In the clip, the 14-time Grammy winner’s lyrics are paired with photos of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Melania Trump.
As Swift’s voice sings, “Don’t care where the hell you been,” for instance, viewers see the line printed over Trump’s mug shot from when he was charged with trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in 2023. The next lyric, “‘Cause now you’re mine,” plays over a photo of the twice-impeached POTUS kissing an American flag.
The video ends with a photo of Trump scooping McDonald’s fries under a slightly altered lyric reading, “The fate of America.”
Billboard has reached out to Swift’s rep for comment.
It’s unclear why the White House would want to use the Eras Tour headliner’s music in any capacity, given the fact that Swift is one of Trump’s detractors whom he’s targeted the most. The politician has insulted the singer numerous times, perhaps most notably writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on Truth Social after she endorsed his Democratic opponent in the 2024 election, Kamala Harris.
That said, Trump and his team are also famous for using the music of artists who disagree with his policies, oftentimes without permission. Just a couple of weeks before the TikTok was posted, Kenny Loggins slammed the president for using “Danger Zone” in an AI-generated video of Trump flying a plane and dumping feces on “No Kings” protestors.
“I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately,” Loggins wrote in a statement. “I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us. Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together.”
