The world’s richest shithead is feeling sensitive. Last week, Elon Musk attempted to clap back at 87-year-old author Joyce Carol Oates, who tweeted in wonder about how someone with so much money can be “totally uneducated, uncultured” and care so little about all the things that make life worth living. In response, Musk called Oates “a lazy liar and … an abuser of semicolons” and tweeted, “Eating a bag of sawdust would be vastly more enjoyable than reading the laboriously pretentious drivel of Oates.” Now, he seems to be similarly bothered by comments from young pop star Billie Eilish.
A few weeks ago, Billie Eilish accepted a trophy at the Wall Street Journal‘s Innovator Awards. In her acceptance speech, Eilish asked why billionaires exist and told the absurdly rich people in attendance that they could use their unlimited resources to make things better in the world: “Give your money away shorties.” (Notable shorty Mark Zuckerberg, who was in attendance, reportedly did not clap.)
On her Instagram story last week, Eilish took specific aim at Elon Musk, who just accepted a new Tesla pay package that could theoretically make him the world’s first trillionaire. Eilish shared a myvoicemychoiceorg post about all the issues that Musk could use his own personal wealth to solve if he cared even the slightest bit. On her own, she added, “etc…. fucking pathetic pussy bitch coward.”
As Rolling Stone points out, Musk responded to a fan-account post about Eilish’s Instagram story over the weekend, tweeting simply, “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.”
OK. So. Here’s the thing. Pop stars don’t necessarily have to be smart people. They don’t necessarily have to be societal leaders. It would be nice if the people who were supposed to be societal leaders would step up and do some actual work. Then, maybe pop stars wouldn’t have to be the rare public figures who come out and say obvious things. I don’t know how smart Billie Eilish is in any area except pop stardom. But this guy isn’t in any position to comment on anyone else’s shed or the sharpness of the tools contained therein.
Famous people: Please keep calling Elon Musk a fucking piece of shit idiot. You’re all getting to him.
