There’s no getting around one particular lyric on this new fakemink song: “I’m a retard, going hard, going dumb in it.” How do you feel about that? Pretty stupid, right? I think it’s pretty stupid. Does it completely disqualify the song for you? I am sorry to report that I like fakemink’s song despite that lyric. Part of the deal with fakemink is that he makes questionable choices all the time and still makes them sound good. “Black Jeep,” fakemink’s new song, sounds good.
In the past few years, fakemink has broken out of the internet-addled UK rap underground to become a real-deal star in waiting. He releases short, chaotic, lo-fi tracks that are oddly addictive, and he’s got insane amounts of swagger. Cameron Winter is a fan, to the point where he told people watching Geese Camp Flog Gnaw set to go see fakemink instead. fakemink is one of our favorite new artists of 2025, and we’ve posted recent singles like “Braces” and “FIDELIO.” Today, he says a whole lot of shit that a different artist would reconsider on “Black Jeep,” a new song that was co-produced by Skrillex.
“Black Jeep” doesn’t sound like a Skrillex track, even though Skrillex worked on it alongside co-producers Varg2TM, DJ Smokey, and Skarp V. It sounds like a fakemink track, with its strutting lope and its blown-out synth patches. It’s less than two minutes long and that R-slur line is on the hook, so you hear it multiple times. fakemink also says, “Cocaine in my nose, now I can’t feel my back teeth/ Fuck a seatbelt, speedin’ in a black Jeep.” Fellow London rapper Fimiguerrero says, “I’m a gentleman for all the cash, I finger-fuck it like a whore.” See what I mean about questionable decisions? It still goes hard. Snippets of this track have been out for a while, and there’s apparently a version with Ty Dolla $ign, which is hard to imagine. It’s out now, and you can hear it below.
“Black Jeep” is out now on EtnaVeraVela.
