Fans Bring Concord Back To Life As Sony Tries To Nuke The Evidence

Last week, Concord modders announced they had gotten custom servers online for the hero shooter over a year after Sony infamously shut the game down. While Concord failed to gain the audience Sony was hoping for, it was really cool to think the game might get to live on thanks to fans’ efforts, but it seems like Sony isn’t as keen to let it come back. The team of modders who are working on the unofficial revival were hit with copyright claims on their YouTube videos showcasing the game running on the new fan servers.

As TheGamePost reports, the two videos in question have been taken down after a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement, an anti-piracy and IP protection firm that files DMCAs on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. For the moment, the takedowns have affected only the YouTube videos, not the actual Concord revival project itself. Despite this, the group does seem a bit spooked and has paused invites to its Discord server where it has been providing updates on the project.

“Due to worrying legal action we’ve decided to pause invites for the time being,” Red, one of the developers working on the mod, said on the Concord Delta Discord server.

If Sony does try to shut the whole project down, that’s some next-level pettiness toward fans trying to keep one of its games alive at no cost to PlayStation. You could argue that Concord is Sony’s IP and it might not want it in the hands of anyone else, even if it doesn’t plan to do anything with it in the future. But even games most people didn’t like don’t deserve to just fall off the face of the earth when developers spent years of their lives working on them. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment on the situation and will update this story if we hear back.
