The Stockholm post-hardcore band Feels Like Heaven features three members of Speedway, but their music diverges slightly from Speedway’s breathless head-knock hardcore. As heard on Within Dreams, their debut album out today, Feels Like Heaven practice more of a melodic post-hardcore sound that guitarist Jens Karlsson once described as “100% real emo hardcore.”
To their credit, they make this poppier, more accessible sound feel every bit as exhilarating as Speedway’s more blatantly aggressive fare. If you mess with Title Fight and their vast diaspora of musical offspring, you’ll probably want to spend your New Year’s Day thrashing around to this. I found “Sandra Bullock” especially engaging, but on first pass I’m not hearing a weak spot here. Dig into Within Dreams below.
