We’re getting a whole new FKA twigs album on Friday. Near the beginning of this year, twigs released EUSEXUA, her first album in many years. Now, she’s already about to follow that one with EUSEXUA Afterglow, a completely separate new LP. We’ve already posted lead single “cheap hotel,” and twigs got together with PinkPantheress to perform the as-yet-unreleased collaboration “Wild And Alone” in Brooklyn last week. Now, twigs is sharing the new single “Predictable Girl.” I don’t think that description really applies to twigs, but she might disagree.
“Predictable Girl” is a thumping, skittering club-pop track that feels more straightforwardly flirty and less expansive than anything on the first EUSEXUA. Like a lot of recent twigs songs, it’s about being overpoweringly horny; she’s the predictable girl because of the way she responds to you, you foxy thing. This one has a bunch of credited producers: twigs, Oli XL, Mechatok, Manni Dee, RougeHotel, Tic, and Sam Every-Baker. twigs co-wrote the song with Tic, Manni Dee, Jimmy Napes, Joy Henson, and Petra Levitt.
The Jordan Hemingway-directed “Predictable Girl” video is something to see. It’s twigs on a motorcycle in a CGI-heavy future city, so it’s a bit like Aaliyah’s “More Than A Woman.” In this one, though, it’s two FKA twigses speeding through that pixelated landscape. While they ride, they get into an intricately choreographed fight that constantly seems like it’s about to turn into a makeout session. They must’ve used a whole lot of body doubles while shooting this, but it looks impressively seamless. Check it out below.
