Before she joined the cast of SNL, Sarah Sherman was best known for her body horror-inspired stand-up comedy. In that regard, she has a lot of creative overlap with Gwar, the thrash metal outfit whose live shows are rife with fake blood and hilariously exaggerated gore. Gwar often incorporate effigies of public figures in their displays of faux-violence, but at their New York City show over the weekend, they had to sacrifice a real living person. That person was the very willing Sherman.
One member of Gwar — I’m not sure who’s who under those costumes — took a sword to Sherman’s neck onstage as fake blood began spewing out. RIP. We’ll sure miss her when SNL returns from Thanksgiving break.
In more Gwar news, they’re participating in an auction held by John Oliver benefitting the Public Media Bridge Fund. Gwar are vocal supporters of public media, so the band’s Blöthar signed a bidet that you can bid on now right here. (The auction also includes a leather jockstrap worn by Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man, a giant bronze scrotum, and more.)
