Illinois city supposedly posted about snow removal, ‘Your mom gets plowed first.’ That’s not true

In January 2024, a Facebook page claiming to be the official page of the city of Bloomington, Illinois, posted a message reminding residents of snow removal procedures. “Side streets get plowed last,” it read. “However, your mom will continue to get plowed first. That remains the priority.” In December 2025, users shared the post again on social media sites including Instagram and X.

Some readers seemed to interpret the post as a real announcement from the city, and that the page sharing the claim was the legitimate Bloomington, Illinois, Facebook page. It was not.

Rather, the Facebook page describes its output as being humorous or satirical in nature. Its bio states: “News of the City of Bloomington, Illinois. We are here to serve the community with Satire/Parody.”

While some users interpreted the satire post as real, others simply shared the post to laugh at the “your mom” joke.

The post is an excellent example of the satirical local-news social media pages Snopes has seen numerous times over the past few years. Prominent examples include Branson Area Breaking News and Casper Planet, ostensibly sharing news for Branson, Missouri. and Casper, Wyoming, respectively.

Snopes has addressed similar satirical claims from those pages in the past, like a claim that Branson’s water tower had fallen down and a rumor that a Wyoming man had been arrested for a DUI while riding a bear.

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
