Jana Horn Shares New Song “All In Bet”: Listen

The searching, softspoken NYC singer-songwriter Jana Horn announced her new self-titled album with the release of “Go On, Move Your Body,” a bleary and dejected tune that we liked a lot. We’re on to the second advance track today, which picks up the pace a bit but remains in the pensive contemplation zone where Horn tends to thrive. It’s called “All In Bet.”

Horn explains the song’s origins, which sound thematically of a piece with the prior track:

I wrote this song the morning after a night at a dive called the Double Down Saloon with a good friend. Maybe they thought it was funny to take a Texan there. It was also very cheap. I was in a bit of a rut, and being there with them was just easy. I could tell it was working on me, reminding me that “with a friend I am not / on the edge, overlooking all I’ve got.” It’s one of those songs that’s taught me something through the process of writing it. I started in a place of “don’t know what I’m thinking” and ended in a place of trust, an all in bet on life. I didn’t know it was going to go there. I think I was coming to terms with the fact that living required an element of faith, of putting everything down, even if it felt like a bluff.
