The London underground rapper Jawnino has an understated magnetism, and he’s drawn to refracted, club-adjacent beats that fit his voice beautifully. Jawnino’s True Panther debut 40 came out last year, and he’s one of our favorite new artists of 2025. Now, he’s released a new collaborative project with the New York production collective Surf Gang.
Surf Gang, who we profiled in 2023, are a perfect fit for Jawnino. Evilgiane, the group’s leader already produced the 40 track “3styl3,” and they understand the rapper’s skittery, lysergic style. Jawnino and Surf Gang recorded their new collaborative project amnesia entirely in London. The record is pretty short, just nine songs in 18 minutes, but it really establishes a mood in that time.
What if Oklou produced a UK cloud-rap record? That’s basically how amnesia sounds. It’s a snowy Friday afternoon here in Virginia, and I would really like to crawl into bed. In that situation, this music is hitting beautifully. Hear it for yourself below.
