Last year, amid personal upheaval and low ticket sales, Jennifer Lopez rebranded and then canceled an entire arena tour. But if you really want to go see JLo sing her hits, you now have an opportunity. On Tuesday night, Lopez kicked off her latest Las Vegas residency, which is called Up All Night Live and which is happening at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum. During that show, she covered Lana Del Rey, a convergence of pop-cultural forces that feels obvious in retrospect.
As part of last night’s Vegas gig, Jennifer Lopez sang “Young And Beautiful,” the song that Lana Del Rey contributed to the Great Gatsby soundtrack in 2013. (Lopez also worked covers of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain On My Parade” in with her own hits.) The “Young And Beautiful” staging was extremely dramatic, with Lopez singing while posing like she was the hero of a supermarket-rack romance novel. Lopez is 56 years old, so the “young” part of that title is a bit of a stretch now, but she is still indisputably beautiful. Watch the cover for yourself below.
