John Keek is an LA-based producer and multi-instrumentalist who’s got a lot of credits on other people’s records, especially those from Dijon, Mk.gee, and that whole crew. Dijon and Mk.gee justifiably get a lot of press, and it’s cool to hear them working on much smaller, quieter releases from their regular collaborators. Last month, for instance, Mk.gee had credits on Crown, an intriguing EP from regular collaborator Andrew Aged. More recently, Mk.gee and Aged helped out on Keek’s new single “somuchlove.”
Keek released “somuchlove” yesterday, and he says that it’s got Mk.gee on upright bass and Andrew Aged on guitar. Spotify credits Keek, Mk.gee, and Aged as the songwriters. Like a lot of the music that comes from that camp, it’s a slightly glitchy but blissfully chilled-out take on the kind of music that might play on adult contemporary radio in past generations. This one is wordless, and it’s got a bit of a Oneohtrix Point Never vibe. Listen below.
