Merce Lemon and Fust are two of the best and brightest indie acts currently channeling the spirit of the sad-eyed country greats. So the prospect of the Pittsburgh singer-songwriter and the Durham alt-country band teaming up to cover two George Jones songs is immensely appealing.
That premise plays out on a new 7″ out digitally today, and it lives up to the hype. For the A-side, Lemon dejectedly sings “Cup Of Loneliness,” while Fust’s Aaron Dowdy lends his robust drawl to “Choices” for the B-side. On both tracks, the fiddles are flying, the tears are falling, and feeling bad sounds incredibly good.
