A rumor that circulated online in October 2025 claimed “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan announced on the ABC TV show that doctors had diagnosed him with cancer. According to the story, the announcement moved the studio to tears, including fellow co-hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos. Snopes received at least hundreds of website searches regarding this matter, including the search phrase, “Does Michael Strahan have cancer?”
In one of many Facebook posts promoting the rumor, on Oct. 18, a user managing a page named “Patrice Lovely (Actress)” posted (archived) a collage of three images of Strahan, a former New York Giants defensive end and Pro Football Hall of Famer. The image showed a watermark reading “Prime Time Presenters.” The post’s comments featured a link to an advertisement-filled WordPress blog article.

BREAKING SAD NEWS: GMA BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS AS MICHAEL STRAHAN REVEALS DEVASTATING CANCER DIAGNOSIS 💔
The studio fell completely silent this morning on Good Morning America. Under the bright lights that usually sparkle with laughter, Michael Strahan’s voice trembled as he took a deep breath — and shared the words no one saw coming. “I’ve been diagnosed with cancer,” he said softly, holding back tears. “And I wanted you all to hear it from me.” Robin Roberts immediately reached for his hand, her eyes welling up. George Stephanopoulos looked down, visibly shaken. The entire set dissolved into tears as Michael thanked viewers for “their love, their prayers, and their strength.” Audience members watching at home flooded social media with heartbreak and support. “I’m crying at work right now,” one fan posted. “Michael has carried us through so many mornings — now we’ll carry him.” Watch the emotional announcement that left America in tears below 👇
In short, the rumor Strahan announced on “GMA” that doctors diagnosed him with cancer was false. Searches of the “Good Morning America” website, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo located no reports on what would be a widely covered story.
Snopes contacted representatives for Strahan to request comment, including official confirmation of the false nature of the rumor, and will update this article if we receive further information.
Digging into the false Strahan cancer rumor
According to the “page transparency” tabs of the above-linked Facebook pages, users promoting the fabricated story resided in North Macedonia, Pakistan, Serbia, Vietnam and possibly other countries. Their posts included text and at least one picture (the overly smooth-appearing image with Strahan crying while covering his face with his hand) generated with artificial-intelligence tools. Those users sought to earn advertising revenue from the AI-generated WordPress blog articles linked in their Facebook posts.
We located no information suggesting actor Patrice Lovely retained ownership of the aforementioned Facebook page “Patrice Lovely (Actress).” The appearance of a verified badge on different page also named Patrice Lovely revealed the actor’s official presence on Facebook. We sent a message to Lovely’s genuine Facebook page to verify the inauthentic nature of the “Patrick Lovely (Actress)” page.
The creation of this fabricated rumor followed the genuine news of doctors diagnosing Isabella Strahan, one of Michael Strahan’s daughters, with cancer. E! News reported she has since announced she is cancer free.
The aforementioned “Prime Time Presenters” watermark pertained to another Facebook page by the same name, whose owners also promoted the same false rumor about Michael Strahan, as well as news about Isabella Strahan. That page’s “page transparency” tab revealed its page managers resided in Vietnam.
