MrBeast Is Opening A Theme Park In Saudi Arabia This Month

MrBeast, the world’s most subscribed-to YouTuber, is opening a limited-time theme park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of a larger festival featuring various acts, events, and attractions.

On November 6, Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson announced on Twitter that he and his team had created Beast Land, a theme park featuring rides, games, prizes, and other activities as part of Riyadh Season, a yearly entertainment event organized and funded by the controversial Saudi Arabian government, which is ruled by the Saud royal family. Beast Land is set to open on November 13 and will run until December 27.

Next week Beast Land our brand new theme park opens!!!! We built custom games modeled after our videos that don’t exist ANYWHERE else and will have the world’s largest prize wall 😀 pic.twitter.com/CdNvme2xG2

“I didn’t want this to be like a typical theme park,” said MrBeast on Twitter.  “Thought of things from first principles and created games I would love to play! Tons of original games created plus, of course, we have rollercoasters and rides.”

Tickets are on sale now and come in three varieties. General admission is $7 USD, but doesn’t include access to rides, games, or other experiences. I guess you can stand around and look at stuff in the middle of what was formerly (and will eventually again be) a parking lot in the middle of Saudi Arabia. A Beast Mode ticket costs around $25 and gives you access to games, challenges, and three rides. Finally, there’s a Beast Mode+ ticket that costs about $65 and includes everything already mentioned, but you also get access to every ride.

When MrBeast was asked on social media why Beast Land, which sounds more like a neon-covered pop-up country fair than an actual theme park, was going to be located in Saudi Arabia, the famous content creator replied: “Middle of the world because a majority of my audience is outside America and we have a big Middle Eastern fan base. Wanted to give them a chance to participate!”

It’s unclear if MrBeast was directly paid by Saudi Arabia’s royal family or government to create Beast Land, but it seems probable. Keep in mind that Riyadh Season is a part of Saudi Vision 2030, which was established by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2016. While the plan is presented as a way for the country to diversify its oil-centric economy, the reality is much different. It’s one of many ways the government is using entertainment, like video games, to whitewash its horrific human rights record and its many other atrocious acts. Here’s what former Kotaku writer Ian Walker wrote about Salman and Saudi Arabia’s plan in 2022:

In reality, however, Saudi Vision 2030 is largely a propaganda campaign focused on whitewashing Saudi Arabia’s atrocious human rights record. The regressive monarchy seemingly hopes that aligning itself with entertainment industries around the world might loosen the purse strings of businesses wary of investing in the oil-rich country’s economy, especially with the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the ongoing, U.S.-backed Yemeni genocide still looming overhead.
