Crystal Lake announced this past October they would be releasing a brand new album, The Weight Of Sound, on January 23rd, their first record since their 2019 LP, Helix,.
For over two decades, the Japanese metalcore band have been staples in the scene, a beacon of light for new coming metal bands – a band to aspire to be like. Their attitudes and love for their craft remain, as founding guitarist YD said alongside the album announcement, “When I look back, I realise that Crystal Lake has now been active for 23 long years. People often say, ‘time flies,’ but the truth is we’ve carved out countless histories together – with friends, bandmates, and fellow musicians – sharing struggles that drew blood and building this band piece by piece. I have constantly been inspired by the people and the environment around me. To play that music together with comrades-in-arms is what it means to be a band. And the music that band creates has the power to shape a new culture. Our new album The Weight of Sound is a reflection of this way of life. I truly hope you will listen and enjoy it.”
Now, alongside the band’s brand new single with Volumes vocalist Myke Terry, “Neversleep,” YD says of the track: “This track is the one where I poured in the hardcore/metal/punk elements that I’ve carried as my own background to the limit. It’s simple, but with an extra twist, and at times hybrid arrangements, updating it into the kind of extreme sound that represents the current Crystal Lake. Every part of the song is made for you to dance, so don’t think too much — just feel it and enjoy. Stay heavy.”
