Neck Deep have always lingered on the edge of the metalcore scene – they’ve performed alongside artists like DRAIN, Yungblud, Pierce The Veil, and I Prevail – so it isn’t too far out of Metal Injection‘s realm, and well, video games are just fun.
Neck Deep‘s distinguished pop-punk has been beloved by many and as a reward to all those who have loved them and followed their journey over the last 10 years, the band has released an 8-bit video game. Celebrating the ten year anniversary of their hit record Life’s Not Out To Get You and the success of the album’s final track, “December,” the video game release coincides with the song’s title and the album’s anniversary.
The video game itself is rather simple but very much on par for those who have been a fan of Neck Deep throughout the years. Clearly displayed in their single, “Take Me With You,” the band have an affection for aliens and are fascinated with them, so much so, that if they invade earth, that Neck Deep wants to be taken home by the aliens; “I’m so done with this planet / It sucks, yeah, you can have it / I’d be down to see inside your UFO / Take me with you when you go.”
The objective of the 8-bit game is centred to help a little alien wearing a hoodie on a skateboard jump and weave along a road to avoid obstacles. Paper airplanes, barriers, potholes, and more pop up along the road amidst a winter scene with decorated snowmen, the alien controlled by the arrow keys and spacebar.
Regardless of the band’s genre, Neck Deep had a fun little go at a small and digestible video game that isn’t too far off the dinosaur that you can control on Google/Google Chrome when you can’t connect to the internet. Except far more detailed.
