Despite stepping back from the touring life, Nicko McBrain has made it clear he’s still very much part of the Iron Maiden machine. Though the legendary drummer has retired from live performances, his role within the band remains active behind the scenes, and he continues to contribute to the group’s wider world.
Recently speaking to Waste Some Time With Jason Green (via Ultimate Guitar), McBrain reflected on what his current position in Iron Maiden actually means: “I’m still a member of the band, but what does that mean exactly? Well, I’m still part of the family, so I do a lot of work with the fan club, and I’m going out and doing still Iron Maiden-related stuff. And, yeah, it’s great.”
His comments underline that while he may no longer be hammering out rhythms on stage, he remains deeply embedded in the Maiden camp. However, the question of whether he’ll be sitting behind the kit for future studio sessions still lingers.
When pressed about the possibility of new recordings, McBrain was frank about the band’s current position, and left a small door open for what might come next: “First of all, there’s no plans to make a new album as yet. That could change. So if that’s the case, maybe I’ll be asked to do a couple of songs.”
The statement offers fans a glimmer of hope that McBrain could still appear on future Iron Maiden releases, should the group decide to head back into the studio. While the road ahead for Maiden‘s next chapter remains uncertain, McBrain‘s continued involvement, however that is shaped in the future, is still something to look forward to.
