Nyxy Nyx Release New Record ‘Nyxy Nyx’

Nyxy Nyx topped on our own Scott Lapatine’s list of favorite 2025 tracks, and today they’ve added a few more to close out the year. The Philadelphia shoegaze/slowcore band just released a new six-song self-titled record, about which they write the following on Instagram:

sup freaks,

out now, we have thee NYXY NYX self-titled record, sides A and B – serving as a follow-up to Cult Classics Vol. 1 and a prelude to the eventual Cult Classics Vol. 2 – six tracks, affectionately known as the plastic palace // spider house demos.

our most accessible hi-fi recordings to date – songs of dissatisfaction, alienation, transformation, and redemption, in that order. you might say they are of the times. or, timeless. or, you might not describe them in terms of time at all.

It’s true, these recordings (which some might classify as an EP, though the band didn’t use that term) are brighter and clearer than I’ve yet heard from Nyxy Nyx. Some songs move with a fierce agility, while others are hefty slow-burns, but they all hit hard in a pretty way. If you’re into the dreamy and hard-to-define epics of fellow Philly indie favorites Knifeplay or Indiana behemoth Cloakroom, you’ll probably dig this a lot.

Digitally, it’s split up into two tracks, each one representing a vinyl side. Midwife’s Madeline Johnston guests on “It’s Okay To Cry,” the first song on Side B, which does not seem to be a SOPHIE cover. Listen below.

TRACKLIST:

Side A:
1 “I can’t dig the way things are”
2 “shoot me to the moon”
3 “thick skin”

Side B:
1 “it’s okay to cry”
2 “unseen eye”
3 “and then we jumped”

Nyxy Nyx is out now via sub-under. Buy it on vinyl here.
