Opal Mag Shares New Single “Wasting”: Listen

With singles like this year’s “Kitchen Song” and “I Don’t Like You, But I Love You,” Brighton-based musician Opal Mag has posited herself as a promising new voice of the ’90s indie rock revival. Right now, there are tons of artists making the type of noisy, hooky guitar music Opal Mag does, but not all of them successfully find the sweet spot between Smashing Pumpkins’ distorted riffs and the Sundays’ effervescent jangles. If that’s what you want, look no further than “Wasting.”

Out today, “Wasting” is Opal Mag’s latest single, and her debut release for Venn Records. It’s undeniably dreamy, but I like that you can still detect heavy doses of drums and a solid bass line in the mix. Opal Mag says in a press release:

“Wasting” is a message to a detached, avoidant lover. Will they stay around to be the kind of person I need, leave, or worse linger with non-committal disappointment? The song captures the realization of a relationship fated to end, having wasted both people’s time.
