The centuries-old New Year’s Eve standard “Auld Lang Syne” rarely fails to send me into a sentimental tailspin, and a new recording of the song by Virginia indie folk-rockers Palmyra — who released an impressive debut album this year — certainly does the trick. Each of the three band members shared statements about the cover on Bandcamp:
We recorded Auld Lang Syne during Americanafest 2023, at the Salt Lick sessions in Nashville TN. Amazingly this is the first cover we have ever released. It feels fitting that it is a live take with just our three instruments and voices. We really leaned into what we know how to do best, featuring bowed bass, three part harmonies and a clear arrangement focus on the lyrics! -Manoa
Salt Lick Sessions is a badass organization that supports independent artists and bands in Nashville, and we’re honored they invited us to record this sweet tune. -Sasha
I was obsessed with the Beta Radio “The Songs The Seasons Brings” Volumes and put those on every year a few weeks before Christmas. Their version of Auld Lang Syne always stood out to me as such a beautiful song and arrangement. We wanted to put our spin on it this holiday season. -Teddy
