Peak Design Teams Up With Jimmy Chin to Launch a New Standard in Tripods

Peak Design has unveiled the Pro Tripod, a completely reengineered system created with input from adventure photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin. The goal was simple: build a tripod that can keep up with demanding shooters while staying easy to carry anywhere. The result is a tough, highly capable tripod available in three sizes, designed for photographers and filmmakers who want pro performance without hauling extra bulk.

The Pro Tripod builds on the success of the 2019 Travel Tripod, which shook up the market with its compact leg design and clever centre-column architecture. This new version takes that foundation and pushes things further. With a CNC-machined hub, a flanged centre column, and larger, longer legs, the Pro Tripod now supports up to 40 pounds, double the previous capacity, and reaches up to 197.4 centimetres in the Tall model. Even with the added strength and height, it still packs down to a size that fits comfortably in a backpack.

Peak Design has also given the Pro Ball Head a full rethink. The biggest addition is fluid panning, which makes smooth video moves possible without a dedicated video head. Add the optional Tilt Mod and you get a compact pan-and-tilt setup ready for video work on the go. The ball head also offers 15 degrees of adjustment with the centre column fully stowed and features a new ARCA-compatible quick-lock that gives a fast, secure connection.

Jimmy Chin played a major role in the tripod’s development, putting early prototypes through brutal real-world testing. “Peak Design has been part of my kit for years,” he said. “Working together on the Pro Tripod gave me an even deeper appreciation for how they design gear. I’m excited to see how this helps other creators in the field.”

Peak Design’s founder and CEO, Peter Dering, added, “Jimmy had a very clear vision of what he wanted in a tripod built for expedition work. If we could meet that standard, we knew we’d end up with something that works for almost everyone.”

The Pro Tripod is priced at $799.95 for the Pro Lite, $899.95 for the Pro, and $999.95 for the Pro Tall. For full product information and specifications, please visit the Peak Design Website.

The launch coincides with the start of Peak Design’s BF/CM sale and includes a 5% discount on Pro Tripod and accessories until midnight (PT)
