Pops of 3 – The Easy Way to Add Colour To Any Outfit for a More Polished Look — Inside Out Style

Many women tell me that they’re hesitant about adding colour to an outfit, sticking with all neutrals because it feels safer, and they’re unsure how to mix colours together successfully, so they avoid it altogether.

In honour and memory of one of our brilliant 7 Steps to Style members, Lynne, who sadly lost her battle with cancer last week, I’m sharing Lynne’s styling mantra – Pops of 3, which she used in almost every outfit she put together.

Pops of 3 – The Easy Way to Add Colour to Your Outfit.

Firstly, find your best neutral base colour.  Your best neutrals relate to your hair, eyes and skin colours  – so if you have brown hair, look for a brown that is similar to your hair colour.  If you have blue eyes, navy or denim may be a great option.  If you have gorgeous olive eyes, then a soft olive is a brilliant neutral.   If you’re blonde a version of beige or camel will be your go to neutral.

Then find 3 items, garments and accessories that are in the same or very similar tone of colour to put together in your outfit.

As I have silver white hair – light silver and grey are my go to neutral – and then I add a colour replicated multiple times, such as the pops of blue in my top, necklace, earrings and glasses below.

Here’s another example using mint green as my Pop of 3.

And here is a tribute to Lynne, she would share her outfits in flatlays, and you can so easily see her pops of 3 colours in each outfit.  Whether she was going for a bike ride, or going to work, she would always include her Pops of 3 colours.

Share your Pops of 3 outfits on Instagram and use #popsof3 so we can all share the lovely memory of our wonderful style sister Lynne, who meant so much to the Inside Out Style community.
