Last year the metallic Richmond punks Private Hell released Wake Up Screaming, one of 2024’s standout EPs. Next month they’ll follow it up with To Dust You Shall Return, and judging by lead single “Future Void,” it might be a late contender for one of this year’s best EPs too.
The hooky “Future Void” leans on Private Hell’s formula of mixing hardcore tempo switch-ups with brutal, guttural growls: “They cut open the world just to watch it bleed/ Humanity spreading its disease.” In the Bandcamp notes, Private Hell say the EP’s four songs touch on themes of addiction, feelings of hopelessness, and AI as a tool for psychological warfare — we can relate!
